Whether you have a busy morning or you’re looking for an ice cold pick-me-up, avocado smoothies are a refreshing drink to enjoy. The naturally creamy fruit adds to the smooth and icy blend of yogurt, milk, honey, and bananas. Blend this in less than 5 minutes to get your day started!

This smoothie is also a great way to use some ripe fruits. Sometimes we buy too many fruits, so instead of letting them go to waste, we slice them up and freeze them to blend in smoothies for later! We usually have frozen bananas on hand, but we’ve also stored ripe avocado, berries, and mango in our freezer. Just make sure to peel and slice the fruit before freezing.

Tips on using your blender

We get that not everybody has a top-notch blender. We’ve bought (and broke) a few lower-priced blenders ourselves, and we’ve learned that these gadgets can be fragile and finicky. We’ve even had one literally start smoking because we tried to blend a little too aggressively!

Luckily, we’ve figured out some tricks on how to get the best smoothie and extend the life of your blender at any price range or quality. These tips will help you get the smoothest blend with minimal wear and tear on your blender.

  • Load the blender in this order: fresh fruit, yogurt & liquids, ice. This will reduce your chances of getting a smoothie littered with those big chunks of ice or fruit that your average blender seems to miss.
  • Pulse on high (2-3 seconds at a time) until the top layer (ice) has made its way down to the bottom near the blades. Then set the blender on low and slowly increase the speed.

Customize your smoothie

You can customize this recipe so that it’s just the way you like it. It tastes great on its own, but we encourage you to add your own special ingredient or use it as base for a beautiful smoothie bowl!

Here are some suggested add-ins for the smoothie:

  • an espresso shot
  • vanilla protein powder
  • chocolate sauce (drizzle it along the inside of the cup)

Another way we love to use an avocado smoothie is to make a smoothie bowl – they’re beautiful and a lot more filling if you want a bigger breakfast.
